So.

First of all, thank you all for your thoughts and prayers through this whole "mystery bruise" ordeal. I so appreciate all your words of encouragement.

So. The dermatologist called this afternoon and told me that the "mystery bruise" is actually the weird form of skin cancer (DFSP I think). Again, she told me that I don't need to worry--that this type of skin cancer does not spread anywhere else, but that it can grow pretty aggressively where it's at, so they will need to do something called a Moh's Procedure to make sure that she got every last bit. Basically, with this procedure, they remove a layer of skin at a time, test it, and then continue until there's no trace of the DFSP.

She also told me that most times, DFSP's aren't found until they are like grapefruit sized. Mine was like dime sized, so it was very small, which is great.

So now, the issue is that there are apparently only two people in Oregon who do the Moh's Procedure--one locally and one up on Portland. My derm is now trying to convince the local guy to clear a space for me in the next six weeks or so...otherwise we will have to drive up to Portland and stay for a few days, which would be doable, but just another extra expense that we don't need right now!

I'm actually not freaking out that much--not at all really. I'm just hoping they can get me in soon for the Moh's Procedure. I'm sure the worry will probably come, but right now I feel pretty at peace, and for that I'm thankful.

But in terms of good news, the local radio station called and I'm one of 100 qualIfiers for their huge $3,500 winter contest. I'm supposed to go in Thursday to find out if I won! I don't have high hopes since I just don't win things, but wouldn't it be awesome if I did?!

ALSO, I just got the most amazing package from Dayspring that I cannot *wait* to show you guys!

  1. Well, at least the wait is over. I'm glad you have peace about the whole thing...and you should...cancer sucks but it sounds like things should be manageable. I sure hope that doctor can get you in soon so this whole ordeal can be put to rest.

Totally hoping you win that $3500!

  2. I know i said this in your first post but Blake got the skin cancer diagnosis in October. He's had to go through several treatments which sound similar but not sure what it's called. The fabulous thing is that they caught it and it is easily (well, after you figure out where to go) treatable. Glad you are doing well with it all and hopefully they can get you in soon. I know the whole process is stressful! hang in there! Good luck,...that sounds like a good amount to win!

  3. I'm glad you got it checked out early, I'm sure it will all get worked out! God's got you in His hands, and you know I don't say that lightly. Also, if you do have to come up to Portland, you always have a place to stay. And I have a super flexible job and would be happy to watch Lizzy too, as long as you bring her little tiny play food :D

  8. I am glad they caught it so soon. Praying for you and the doctors and for you to win that prize as I am sure that would be a huge help right now. Maybe someone to help with Lizzy and a few chores around the house. Or just bills. Prayers!

  9. Oh man, Meredith. I'd say I'm sorry for the diagnosis but it seems like you are handling this so well and really, if the doctor isn't too concerned about long term issues I'd say you are probably going to be just fine. Glad the wait is over for sure and I think you 100% deserve that 3500!

  10. Well, lame. Glad you're in a good place about it, though, and that it definitely sounds like something you can straight tear up. I've no doubts you'll put that cancer in its place.

My initial reaction was to offer you guys a place to crash up north, but then I realized that was freakin stoopid, Seattle being three hours from Portland. Derp.
