BQOTD: Are you inked?

Today's Burning Question of the Day: Do you have any tattoos? If so, what and where? If not, why not?

Personally, I've always loved the look of tattoos, and would secretly love to be pretty heavily tattooed like some of the girls featured on Tattoo Tuesday over on Sometimes Sweet...I think the half sleeves are more often beautiful than not, but I'm not sure that I'm cool enough confident enough to be able to pull it off!

Justin and I have both talked about getting lizard tattoos for Lizzy (if you're scratching your head at this, we used to call Lizzy "Lizard" before she was born, and still occasionally do). Right now, this is what I have bookmarked:

Something like this where two lizards form a heart, but smaller, and maybe on my inner arms/wrists.

So why not? For one, tattoos are expensive! They definitely fall into the "extravagant" category for us. Also, I always seem to think about it in the summer, but really should get tattooed in the winter to avoid the sun contact, at least initially. Lastly, I've actually looked through the portfolios of most of the local tattoo artists (there aren't many), and I just didn't love any of their portfolios, so I'm not sure that I'd want to be tattooed by them, you know?

But what about you?!

  1. I would like a small one, either on the inside of my finger, or on the inside of my wrist. Problem is, I'm just not sure what I want.

  2. I have two: three stars on the inside of my left wrist for an boyfriend who passed away, and a small lady bug (the size of a penny) on my right foot that I got in Portland. I love them both and wouldn't trade them for the world. This sounds silly, but I would draw on yourself where you want to get the tattoo and see if it bothers you. That's what I did, and I ended up re-placing my foot tattoo so it was a little higher so flip flops wouldn't cut it off. ;)

  3. I don't have any, but I've always secretly envied those that know what they want enough to get one/some. If I was to finally make up my mind, I'd get them on my shoulder blades, or ankle area. Somewhere I can cover up for work.

  4. I'm not as heavily tattooed as those featured on Danielle's blog, but I've got quite a few, including a 3/4 sleeve on my left arm and a huge rib piece. my next project will be my calves :)

my biggest advice for those getting tattooed is to find the right artist for you. if you've browsed around your local shops and don't like what you see, travel out a little farther. if you see someone out and about with a tattoo you really like, ask them where they get their work done!

if you get something that is truly meaningful, you won't regret it, I promise.

  5. That lizard tattoo is amazing! Very cool idea.

I have two tattoos - one on my hip and another on my foot. The one on my hip is a butterfly and while I don't regret it, I wouldn't get it again - it has no meaning and is in a weird spot.

The one in my foot is a flower and I love the placement. I'd like to have some work done to it to make it more meaningful...maybe incorporate chad or our kids...we'll see.

  6. I have two, one on the left side of my lower back and one on my right foot. The lower back is a bumblebee (Melissa means honeybee in Greek) and the foot is a the Perfect Circle symbol with my husband's name in greek in the center. I would love more. I agree with Sar, draw whatever you are thinking on yourself and see if you can live with it for a day at least. I did that with my foot tattoo and it sealed the deal.

  7. I do.. I love tattoos. I have only one now- a Jesus fish with the Greek letters inside of it. It is on my lower back in the "tramp stamp" position- I do like it there though since it is easy to show if someone asks, but it is covered most of the time.

I want to also get the Virginia Tech remembrance ribbon on my upper ankle and a cross on my foot. Those are my "rewards" for reaching various weight loss goals. I'm about 10 pounds away from the remembrance ribbon right now :)

  8. I have seven. Top on the top of my foot, one on the inside of my ankle (that I hate) one on the outside of my ankle down under that ankle bone thingie (that one really hurt but it's SO CUTE there) one on my lower back (yes I have a tramp stamp) and two on my inner wrists. I love it. I would be covered head to toe if I were brave enough. Except I'm not into the pain like some people are - I think it hurts. For realsies. And I second the motion to draw it on yourself first- that woulda saved me this inner ankle grief!!

  9. I have 15. the only one that anyone would ever see is one each of my sisters and I have on our left ankle. My entire back is covered along with both rib cages and my stomach. All have a special meaning and all I do not regret any of them.

  10. I have a tiny cross on the inside of my left wrist. I love it. A constant little reminder. I'd love to get another one honoring my boy, Eli, but I want to wait until we have more kids (if we have more) because I would want to honor them, too.

  11. Oh boy...I'm going to be the odd man out here. I personally HATE tattoos, especially on women. I really can't think of anything trashier than permanent ink on one's skin, even those seemingly "cute, small" ones on the toes and hips. I know that's pretty harsh but it's just something I have felt and believed for a long time. I never went through a phase where I even considered getting one.

  12. I have eight, and I think I've reached my limit. The older I get, the more they freaking hurt!
Some of mine are whimsical, some you can see, some you can't. I love them all and they all have a deep meaning for me.
Definitely find an artist that you LOVE and a piece you are 100% certain about.

I still don't have any tattoos...

  14. I don't have any, and I probably never will. I just can't imagine liking an image for that long... I mean it will be there FOREVER. Haha. And it's gonna fade and get wrinkly... I just feel like there are more cons than pros. That being said, the lizard tattoo is a really cute idea. :)

  16. I have always wanted one... but I never got brave enough... I even walked in to have it done once ... and chickened out... I just don't think I'm cool enough for it... If I ever get one done I am in love with birds...I guess you can relate it to my independent way of being.. but I will definitely at a spot that it won't be visible to me all the time...coz I'm afraid I'd get tired of it. Weird... I know..
by the way: LOVE the lizzards idea...and it totally relate you guys...

  17. No tatoos for me, and I don't think I'll ever get one. IF I did, it would probably just be the names of my children, very small, on the inner wrists. I like tattoos there.

  18. I'll never get a tattoo. You see how I am with my hair. I'm always changing it. If I got a tattoo, I'd want it off one day, on the next. :) Nothing too permanent for me.

  19. Love that lizard tattoo! I have a small 4-leaf clover on my hip because both my grandfather and I are March babies. I got it the month he passed away. It's so tiny and hardly anyone knows that I have it. I'd been thinking of getting one for infertility and have thought of some ideas but nothing I love. I always think tattoos are cool especially if they have a meaning but yes, they are expensive-even teeny tiny ones!

  20. I have two. One is the Chinese symbol for my name - Faith. The other are these two flowers in the shape of a heart on my hip. It's one that I'm iffy about. Don't love it, don't hate it. I got it my first weekend at college. I want to get a big one. One that goes from my hip and up my ribs and will probably turn the heart into whatever it is that I get. I just need to figure out what that is. I'd really like to do a cherry blossom, but there are so many BAD cherry blossom tats out there that I haven't done it yet. It really is about finding the right artist.
