I made a couple of Pinterest-inspired recipes in the past week. I thought both were yummy, even though I over-cooked the chicken in recipe #2. Justin did NOT like the first, but I was not all that surprised as it doesn't include meat.

I am really, super hopeful that we are going to be buying part of a cow. We went out and visited the ranch on Wednesday and I think we both really liked the couple and are excited to sample the beef (we're trying to get a group of the family together to sample it since a few of them may be interested too). This particular ranch raises Longhorn beef, and I am SUPER excited about this prospect--check out the comparison from the USDA between regular lean ground beef and longhorn beef:Lean Ground Beef (per serving): 272 cal/24.7g protein/ 18.5g fat
Longhorn Beef (per serving): 140 cal/ 25.5g protein/ 3.7g fat

Literally everything is a battle with Lizzy right now. It's a battle to get her to eat anything (other than fruit). It's a battle to get her to even sit on the toilet. It's a battle to get her to bed. It's a battle to read her a book. This stage of parenting is so hard! But then again, the other night I wasn't feeling great, and Lizzy came and snuggled with me on the couch and gave me kisses for over an hour.{four}
I got the new Jillian Michaels Kickbox Fastfix DVD. I like it. It felt like it went really fast, and I probably could have done back-to-back workouts. Also? It's easier on my knees than some of the other Jillian videos. {five}
I have been reading up a STORM lately, so you'll probably see once-a-week (if not more often) book reviews for the next few months. The book review posts are consistently the least popular in terms of comments, so I'm not entirely sure whether or not you guys like them, but the bottom line is that I'm a book worm and I like them.
Ugh... we too are at that everything's a battle stage! It has been a particularly trying week and DS decided to start our Friday out exceptionally early, which has left us both in a mood and my patience was already wearing thin! Is it naptime yet?! ;) In his defense, I see that his bottom 2-year molars are nearly poking through so I'm sure that's what has had him in a bad mood all week, but teething + 2yo attitude = one worn out momma!
ReplyDeleteFWIW, I really enjoy your book reviews so I say keep it up for sure!
I'm not a big comment maker, but I do really like your book reviews and have used them quite a few times to pick books :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so envious that you get to read so much! Totally jealous.
ReplyDeleteYay for new foods! The first looks absolutely divine!
The battle years... I remember them well. I promise, though, it DOES get better. One day, you will look back on this stage of her life with a tiny little pang, and ask yourself, "when did she grow up?" This is the stage I am at with my teenage daughter. She will be 16 years old this summer, and I am enjoying this time of her life SO much. I had always heard that the teenage years are the worst, but, I have to disagree. If you take the time to invest in your child's life, raising her with courage and conviction, being there for her when she needs someone to talk to, you will reap the rewards when she leaves childhood behind and becomes a young woman. All that to say, every difficult moment in the meantime, is WORTH it. Promise. Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteP.S. From one book lover to another, I happen to enjoy your book reviews. Keep 'em comin'! :)
I love pinterest for making our dinners less boring. I've always wanted to buy part of a cow. Interesting to see the numbers. I like your book reviews. When I decide to read again, it's a good place to go for things to read.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a very strong willed little girl! At least you she'll always be able to stick up for herself? :) Good luck, you're doing great!
ReplyDeleteLove your random thoughts posts. Isn't it funny how the most helpful posts (like book reviews) often get the least comments - I think everyone loves a good book recommendation, but for some reason, they're the easiest ones to skip commenting on (I'm guilty of it, too!). I love 'em, so keep 'em coming :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a lurker and have never commented...but just wanted to say that I LOVE the book review posts! Several of the last few books I've read came from your suggestions, so please keep them up :)
ReplyDeleteI love the book reviews!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the book reviews!!!
ReplyDeleteHooray for the cow! :) We got a fourth of one for Christmas and I think we'll always take this route for our meat. Besides the obvious health benefits, you just ALWAYS have meat in your house and can whip up a meal on those "what do you want to eat? I don't know -what you want to eat?" nights ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm straight up jealous of your reading! I'm still trying to get my way through Mockingjay :(
Well, to me both recipes look really yummy.
ReplyDeleteI do read every single one of your posts, book reviews included. So the lack of comments does not mean we are not there. We are faithful... you know... ;)
