I saw this elsewhere, and thought it was an interesting question. So, since it's been awhile, I thought it would be an excellent burning question of the day. Without further adieu, the burning question of the day is:
What are YOUR hot-button issues? Those topics that will always cause you to weigh in?
For me, they are (1) intolerance/hate due to incorrect application of Christianity, (2) vaccines/ the continued "blaming" of vaccines on autism, and (3) child/spousal abuse.
For me, its any conversation where people are either blaming their doctor because "they can't figure out what's wrong with me" or their child's teacher because "he/she can't teach my child and it only in it because he/she gets the summer off".
ReplyDeleteOhhhh good question! Mine are:
ReplyDelete1 - breastfeeding and all the myths and incorrect information that are perpetuated both by moms and the medical community.
2 - women's right to choice in terms of birth and her ultimate autonomy over what is done to HER body.
3 - education and the state of our current public education system.
1. Education System and our lack of understanding on how it needs to change. (I teach in a public school...I get to see the problems first hand)
ReplyDelete2. the move from a parenting society to a blaming, "spoon in mouth" society.
In no particular order: domestic violence, sexual assault, and abortion.
ReplyDeletewow, great question! here are the issues where i am *burning* to share my perspective, but am learning to temper and sometimes even withhold my thoughts (so hard!):
ReplyDelete:: abortion -what role should our government have?
:: celebration of holidays, particularly christmas
:: events surrounding 9-11 and the general collective understanding of our involvement in the middle east (can we say, propaganda?!)
:: homeschooling =)
i am sure there are more ... hee hee.
Nothing gets me more riled up than social injustice... especially issues that are connected to an individual's identity (i.e., discrimination based upon religion\spirituality, sexuality, race etc)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I really liked this question, good one!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh. I have lots.
ReplyDelete1. sex trafficking issues
2. injustice issues--dealing with race primarily (huge passion of mine)
3. breastfeeding. Not in a "you have to breastfeed" but if anyone EVER asks for advice...I just simply CANNOT turn away from helping another mommy out.
I'm with you on 1 and 3. Also animal abuse...I get so, so heated about animal abuse...don't get me started on the ASPCA commercials. I can't even watch, and nothing gets me more mad than when someone hits their dog or something. Trying to think of what else...I guess those are the biggest.
ReplyDelete1. Parents that blame teachers for their child's grades
ReplyDelete2. Breastfeeding
3. Abortion
4. Domestic Violence
There are probably more, I just can't think right now!
1)Lazy Parents. People who refuse to work for money to take care of their kids, and set them in front of a TV all day.
ReplyDelete2)Religion. I can't stand when people are constantly making their religion seem more valuable then ours
3)Assumptions. All in general. I think unless you know, and are educated in the topic you're preaching about, then don't assume your answer is correct ( or incorrect).
My list could go on and on and on. LOL but for the sake of those around me, I'll just name these 3 things.
I am totally with you on the whole vaccine thing...see my blog sgtsagerswife.blogspot.com but I also ger fired up about car seat safety! OMG this is a hot topic for me...check out the blog, I wrote all about it! Oh and another thing is that people assume that every woman should be able to breastfeed...I am one of the ones who can say that I can not breastfeed. I tried and tried for 8 weeks and just didn't have enough to feed her. She was losing weight because of this fact. I tried everything I could to bring my milk in...nothing worked! Anyway, those are my hot topics :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on 1 & 2. Other things I get irritated about are when non-insurance people, who call themselves "financial advisors" (aka Suze Orman) try to give people insurance advice when they don't have a clue what they're talking about. Most of the time they're wrong and giving horrible advice, but innocent people don't have a clue that they're being shafted. (Okay, I'm stepping down off my soapbox now..)
ReplyDeleteHeh, rad question.
ReplyDeleteMy main one is the Nazis. Or World War II in general. Because people in this country talk about them all the time without knowing what the hell they're talking about.
And i'm with Lisa on social justice. And religion/sexuality/race is my trinity, too.
