I Need Accesories Help...Badly!

If you've been reading this blog for long, you probably know that I'm basically allergic to everything. Christmas trees, grass, dust, pollen, 95% of flowers. For years, I was so allergic to metal that even the button on jeans gave me a huge rash, so I really never wore jewelry that wasn't pure silver. But recently, I've noticed that I'm able to wear earrings/necklaces for several hours at a time without breaking out into hives. And consequently, this month I'm on a quest to buff up my stash of accessories. I like to dress pretty basically, and I've increasingly come to believe that some well-thought accessories can make the difference between looking put together and looking sloppy.

This month, I'm planning to spend about $50 to update my accessories, but I need your help! Because I've never really done the whole accessories thing, my stash is pretty pathetic. I don't mean "pathetic" as in I have a ton of stuff but I don't really like it and want an excuse to buy more. By "pathetic", I mean pathetic. In fact, here is my accessories collection in its entirety:

Yep, that's it. I could definitely use some updating, but I don't really know where to start or how to get the most bang for my buck since I don't have a huge budget to work with. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE some suggestions if anyone is willing to help me shop (and feel free to show me your own etsy shop!). Here's what you should know:

-I don't like gold (save for white gold), but I can handle bronze a bit better.
-I have almost $100 in credit at Amazon, so buying there would be ideal, but not a necessity.
-I'd like at least one long necklace, at least one pashima-style scarf!

Any suggestions for me? Pretty please with chocolate sprinkles?

  1. How about an "infinity scarf"? I love them!

    Here's one on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Camel-Thin-Circle-Eternity-Scarf/dp/B0047EAGCW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1314625890&sr=8-3

And here's a whole bunch on Pinterest:

  2. I made a blog post because the links were taking up too much space. It's mostly earrings...

Also, could you buy the silver or bronze ear hook part and replace that on a brass earring or something?

  3. I love pashmina's! Here's where I got mine for super cheap...in fact I went back and bought several different colors after inspecting the quality of the first I got. http://www.peachcouture.com/bridal_pashmina.html?gclid=CM2R37_d9KoCFcbBKgodZkw9DA

As far as jewelry goes, I'm no help in that area, I stick to my reliable pieces most of the time, rarely stepping outside of my fashion boundary. I do like Lia Sophia though, their stuff is high quality metals and doesn't make my excema flare up.

    Good luck!

  4. I wish I could help, but I just don't accessorize. The only necklace and earrings I wear are my pearls. Sad, but true. :)

  5. I know this sounds a bit teeny bopper, but Charlotte Russe has a ton of cute accessories, usually 1 for $6 or 2 for $8. Their earrings usually have hypoallergenic posts, & they have a ton of cute necklaces. The stuff I've gotten from there has lasted forever - I've never had problems with it falling apart or turning any weird colors, either. Good luck!

  8. I wish I could help you, but seriously you have more accessories than I do, and I'm not even allergic! (yes, I'm pathetic)

    Good luck!

  9. Ditto the comment about Forever 21, I don't know what kind of metal their stuff is made with, but I've seen some really cute stuff there (and online!).

  10. Infinity scarf YES! Love! Good suggestion from Melissa!

And I realize I have a shit ton of earrings and jewelry for someone that barely ever wears anything but work clothes... (but I guess you knew that) ;)

  11. I am not a big jewelry girl - but wish I was. I do know that spending a little more money on quality fabric in your scarf - and you won't regret it. Skip the synthetics. My favorite scarf is a tissue weight wool one... so this you can see through it. I dream of a real pashmina.

  12. If you wear your hair up a bit, get a pair of hoop earrings in any style or color. I love hoop earrings. Or you could just get a pair of diamond studs. I think those are just classic. =)

  13. My sister has the same problem with being allergic to jewelry and she started doing the same thing as you with just wearing things for a few hours. Actually, I think she can handle it a lot better than she used to so I think her body is starting to get more used to it.

What about a long necklace with some fun beading or multiple chains? I love those and you can just dress up a normal plain shirt with one.
