Things

- So far, every day this week I've had three kiddos at home! I've watched Lizzy's cousins Payton and Logan, and also the kiddos of a friend. They have all been great--listened well, no major tantrums, etc...but can I just say that I have been TIRED at the end of the day, lol? On one hand, it's nice to know that when the time comes (more on this later), I could handle lots of kiddos running around! On the other hand, it's a bit of a challenge (but not in a bad way)for me to plan out my day a bit better--I'm finding that I have to be more intentional about planning when I'm going to work out, make dinner, etc.

-Oh, and have I mentioned that I'm in the process of painting the upper cabinets, which means that I essentially have no kitchen and no table? It is CRAZY, but hopefully the last coat went on last night, and J will hang them tonight.

-PS, if you missed it before, I joined Twitter! You can find me {here}.

-On to the above mentioned future babies thang--Justin told me the other day that his work is considering changing insurance again...I think this will be the fifth or sixth time they've changed in the last two years. I finally figure out one plan and what's covered, and BAM, it changes again. I understand why they've made the changes from a business perspective, but it's hard from a mom and budget perspective since sometimes we've gone from like a $30 co-pay to paying for half of everything out of pocket! But the thing that's REALLY stressing me out is that they are also considering paying the guys what the company pays for insurance and letting everyone buy their own private insurance...but the problem is that when I left my job, we looked into private insurance for me, and the rep said the chances that I would qualify were slim due to allergy shots, asthma, past surgeries, and the fact that I'll probably be considered overweight by the insurance company's standards (which are apparently even stricter than the BMI charts, which still don't tell the whole story). Needless to say, future baby talk has officially been completely tabled. And the whole scenario is stressing me out in a way that I haven't been stressed since I was working!

-We're just coming to the end of Beth Moore's Esther study. It's kind of a bittersweet thing for me--our church had never done a study like this before, and unfortunately, I don't think many of the people who were participating liked it, 'cause they've been dropping like flies. I do know that a lot of the people have mentioned that they don't like the homework, which is funny because that is my favorite part! I'm not always good at self-directed study--I need that direction and accountability that a group brings (our church doesn't have life groups or anything like that). I don't want to fall out of the habit of spending daily time in Bible Study, but I don't know what to do next. I've been wishing that I could facilitate some sort of study on this blog, but I'm not sure how that would work exactly, or even if anyone would be interested.

-Have a great Wednesday y'all!

  1. Meredith--
Don't know if you would like this as an alternate Bible study option--it's not for everyone--but I've enjoyed it a lot over the last four years. Have you ever heard of BSF? I just checked the website and there are classes in Oregon...though I can't remember where in Oregon you live, so it might not work for you. But they have a children's program, so Lizzie could attend with you and learn some of the same content that you are studying. It is about to start for the year, since the U.S. classes go September-May. The website is www.bsfinternational.org. Just throwing it out there in case you want to give it a try. This year's study is the book of Acts, and I'm super excited about it. Blessings!

  2. Jon and I have had to jump threw a ton of hoops for insurance for this pregnancy and baby, and what we learned was that through the new healthcare laws (many of which I don't agree with, but that's another story entirely....), you can't be denied or have higher premiums due to past conditions/pre-exsiting conditions/etc. AND if you're under 26, you can still be on your parents insurance. That's what I'm doing right now, and it's fully covering alllllll of my maternity. I won't even have a co-pay for delivery or anything!!! The only catch is, it won't cover the baby once he's born.

Good luck with insurance though, it's a pain and I think the whole system is majorly screwed up....

  3. Ugh, insurance stuff is the bane of my existence right now and I just posted about it, too. Sorry you are dealing with this crap, too!

  4. You would think my husband, working for a hospital would have great insurance... not so much. We didn't look into it much before I quit my job - but it is terrible. It costs a lot and then it costs us some more out of pocket. I just don't think it is right to have to worry about getting heath care or affording it.

I would love to join a bible study. I go to one on Wednesdays that is a combo bible/book study. I have no idea how to do one online - but I would get my hands in if we figured something out.

  5. It sucks that insurance can dictate life plans. It really does.

  6. So sorry about the stress of the insurance stuff. I will be praying it all works out for the better.

I would definitely be interested in some kind of bible study thing, I can't imagine how it would work either but I'll be thinking about it as well.

Just FYI, I think you're so great. :)

  7. Dang, insurance is screwing everyone! You're the third blog I've read today on the topic.

I saw someone above recommended BSF. Ive never participated, but a number of girls at my church have and like it.

I've got the Esther study on my desk but just haven't gotten to it. I'm in three bible studies right now and as much as I want to do the Esther study, I can't add another. I love the homework too, though. :)

  8. Sorry to hear about the insurance thing. Insurance can be a HUGE pain. :(

Someone else recently mentioned doing an online Bible study. I'm sort of shy in person, and I don't have much time to go to Bible studies, so, I do them on my own. I'd love to do a blog sort of one!

  9. I'm a student on the school's less than great insurance. I have asthma too, and every year I exceed my the prescription coverage and have to pay for the expensive asthma meds out of pocket.

All the major drug companies have patient assistance programs if you're below a certain income level and can't afford your medications- I think to get a tax writeoff and to placate the gov't from price regulations. I was initially embarrassed to apply, but I did. The people working at these programs are very kind, and I got my medicine for free for some time.

Here are some- hope it helps!

  10. Insurance can be such a pain. We are self-insured because Brandon is self-employed, and it is SO confusing. Hang in there, hopefully something will work out soon!

    And welcome to Twitter!
