BQOTD: Do you go shopping on Black Friday? What do you usually shop for (i.e. doorbusters, Christmas presents for others, presents for yourself)?

Personally, I have a love/hate relationship with Black Friday. I hate the crowds. I hate the bustle. But on the other hand, when we do our Christmas shopping for others on Black Friday, we *do* end up saving significantly.
On one hand, I like the idea of stores being open on Thanksgiving evening since I have an easier time staying up late than getting up early, but I also hate the fact that it means that retail employees may not to get to spend Thanksgiving with their families or would have to sleep through the day in order to report to work at midnight. There are so few days that retail stores are just flat-out closed, and I kind of like when they are.
We never plan on doing Black Friday but always get sucked into the ads and hustle 'n bustle. Truthfully, I love it :) We've gotten a desktop computer and laptop during our excursions. Before babies, we'd set our alarms for 1 am and be in lines by 3, shop and sleep the day away. It was fun and brings back good memories. I'll probably do some sort of shopping this year - mostly behind my computer. The deals are too good to pass up!
ReplyDeleteI intentionally do not shop Black Friday, out of respect for the retail employee crowd. Having worked Black Friday retail before, lemme tell you--it sucks just as much as you'd expect.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Black Friday shopping, but I HATE that they're opening on Thanksgiving. Midnight is fine, but to open earlier takes away from the calmness of Thanksgiving for me and makes me more anxious to start BF shopping. BOO!
ReplyDeleteI did the black Friday thing before we had the monster. Now I hang out at home and try the online sales.
ReplyDeleteMy mom, sister, and I have an annual BF shopping tradition. We start at Kohl's (whenever it opens), shop until the line starts to form, one of us gets in line and the other 2 shop, and trade off standing in line and shopping until we make it to the checkout. Then we get breakfast and head to the mall for the doorbusters/early birds there. You can save SO much money at Kohl's and they have something for almost everyone in the family. I do feel bad though for those businesses opening on Thursday night. I even heard those stores that you listed as opening at midnight have some locations that will be opening at 10pm on Thursday night.
