Random Snippets

-Awhile ago, a few of you asked what I thought about Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist. I've been meaning to write a full review, but I just don't feel like I have a lot to say. I didn't hate it. I didn't love it. The writing style was easy enough for me to read, but I sort of felt like there was some esoteric message about...I'm not even sure what...that I just wasn't privy to. I kept thinking 'I must be missing something--it can't be this simple, can it?' I mean, I could venture to guess that the book was a metaphor for this or that, but I just love the book enough to want to spend any spare time wondering what the author really meant when he said "sand", ya know?

-I shampooed our area rug last night. It was the first time I'd done it in the 3 years we've lived here, and it was DISGUSTING. I shampooed it twice, and then asked Justin to do it once more while I put Lizzy down. He ended up doing it twice because he said that the water was so nasty when he dumped it out his first run (third overall). So, we've gone over it a total of four times, and the water we dump out is STILL nasty. Maybe now Justin understands why I'm always bugging him to keep his work boots off the rug...because seriously, I don't even want to KNOW what plumber's boots have all over them, let alone do I want them on my rug. Gross.

-I'm still doing TurboFire, and I do like it. It's fun. The only thing that I don't like is that many of the people in the video don't look like real people to me. Many of them look like they've had plastic surgery of some kind, which is fine if that's your thing, but sometimes I just worry that it is distorting my idea of what "fit" looks like.

-I have NO IDEA what to get Lizzy for Christmas or her birthday. Parents of toddlers--what are YOU doing?

  1. I'm not a 'parent of a toddler' but I am a godmother of a 2 year old. Sit down with her with the Toys R Us book and have her look through. We've done that because, literally, the girl has EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN... I did that...and there was ONE THING that caught her eye...and she said, "JESS! MINE! TOY!" I'm going with that. I think she'll remember it from the book...and she'll love it.

But, don't be alarmed, I'm not getting her tons of toys, just that one. Otherwise, I'm getting her PJ's...Cute, snuggly, footie pajamas that she can grow into.... What kid doesn't need long sleeve/pants PJs?

  2. I'm having the same dilemma about presents (Christmas and a January birthday)

So far I've come up with new clothes
Wooden puzzles because she loves them

Yeaa not too inspired over here..

  3. Your Turbo Fire comment made me laugh. Every time I do one of those videos, I secretly wonder if Charlene Johnson has boob implants! Cause it sure looks like it to me!

  4. I'm still all over the place about what I want to get for Ryann. I really want some building blocks (like large lego style ones). Possibly a doll cradle and/or stroller... Little easy stuff for the stocking is going to be cheap coloring books and stickers. Those seem to make her world go round :). Wish I had some really awesome ideas for you!

  5. I'm getting Jaxon trains and cars. Nothing expensive, but what he likes.

Cohen - I'm not sure. Maybe a pair of TOMS... is that selfish of me? Hahaha.

  6. We are getting Jack an art easel and a small guitar (like...with strings and such) that Daddy will start teaching him to play a little. Other than that, we are just stuffing his stocking with goodies.

My sister is doing three gifts for each child of theirs, to remind them of the gifts of the wise men, which I thought was a pretty cool idea.

  7. We got our daughter
-A box full of felt/fabric play food
-A leap frog brand toddler laptop
    -A veggie tales dvd
-And we'll get her some sort of doll

For smaller items for her stocking
    -new pyjamas
    -hair bows

  8. Oh and a friend does this regarding gifts for her son, you might like it:

Something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read.

  9. Annie will get tons of stuff from relatives I'm sure - from us we're limiting it to 4 things using the want, need, wear, read categories. For the want I have a bunch I could get her but I think I'm going to make her a craft box with crayons, paper, cut outs of things, glue sticks (yikes...) markers, coloring books, etc. We might also get her a little table/chairs from ikea - that could maybe fall under the "need" category, quite loosely of course :)
