Whew. Amazon came to the rescue with a laptop charger that cost a grand total of $16 with next day shipping! I'm back, baby :)
Anyway, today Brittany Ann answered one of my questions for her Workout Wednesday posts (regarding how many calories a breastfeeding mom needs--because I've read everything from 1800-2800, and that's a BIG difference when you're trying to lose weight!). Her post left me curious as to what y'all do for exercise, and how often. So today's Burning Question of the Day is:
If you exercise on a regular basis, what does your "routine" look like? Do you hit the gym? Run outside? Bust out the home workout programs like P90X? How often do you work out?

And my own answer:
ReplyDeleteThe gym membership was one of the non-essential sacrifices that we made so that I could stay home. We don't have any exercise equipment at home (aside from a treadmill, but it's broken right now), so I'm a bit limited in my options!
I try to do a home exercise video (like 30 Day Shred, or Biggest Loser Cardio Max) at least three times a week. On the other days, I like to walk with Lizzy...usually for half an hour to an hour. Lately though, we've had awful weather, so I try to do little things like situps during commercials, or fitting in exercise while playing with Lizzy (like a recent post on Heir to Blair suggested).
I go through workout spurts where I'm really into it 5 days a week, and where the site of the elliptical exhausts me. In the winter, I elliptical in the basement. The rest of the year I try to mix it up with runs outside, swimming, etc. I'm a cardio girl - weight training just isn't me, but I know it's important.
ReplyDeleteSince joining weight watchers (gah they should pay me for how much I talk about them!) I've changed my perception of exercise. I hate going to the gym, I hate running, I hate getting all dressed for working out then getting sweaty, then having to shower and re-dress. WW focuses more on just "moving"- Joe and I have started taking a walk around our neighborhood after dinner each night with Noah in his wagon or stroller. I have been losing so much more weight now and when the WW lady asked me had I been exercising I said "Nope... oh wait.. maybe!" haha
ReplyDeleteI try to run at least 3-4 times a week 2-5 miles at a time. Some weeks I slack and don't get out as often as I should though. I think a lot of being healthy is a combo of eating healthy and exercising. So, I've been trying to do much better at making dinner that consists of: some type of meat (chicken, beef, pork, fish, etc..) and then two veggies (no potatoes.... more like green beans and broccoli or something along those lines) I know you didn't ask about what I eat, but I think it paints a clear picture of how I stay in shape. I don't do much weight lifting, though I try to get in some crunches and push-ups whenever I remember.
ReplyDeleteI am very lucky that I work at a gym so I don't have to pay for a membership-woohoo!!! There's pros and cons to that, while it's here to use every day, some days when you have a really crappy day at work, the last thing you want to do is stay an extra hour to workout-you just want to get out of this place!!! At the same time, I usually go workout around 1pm so I can break up my day and watch Ellen. As you know, I'm training for my half-marathon so most of my working out consists of running, LOTS of running lately. I do most of it inside and I know I totally need to get outside in the heat and element so the next couple of weeks that's where I'll be transitioning.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite workout is on Wednesdays, I ran a mile to the park, then meet my friend and we walk 3.5 miles, then I run a mile back home. Emma, my pup, does this with us. It's my easy, cross-train days and the company is great!
Well I clearly think in order to loose weight you have to start with your diet first. have you heard of the 5 factor diet? That's what I'm doing and so far it's so easy to do. I wouldn't even really call it a diet, there are very few restrictions and I seriously feel full all the time! I'm going to do a post on it this week, so hopefully I can answer some questions.
ReplyDeleteMy Work out.
I'm just getting back into my workout routine, and so far I feel amazing ( A little sore, but good!)
Mons,Weds, Fri I do strength training. I either take a lift class or a boot camp class or hop on the machines for arms, abs, and legs. I do this for 45 minutes. I swim on these days for another 25 minutes to get in my cardio and relax my muscles.
Tues, Thurs, Sat I do cardio. (couch to 5k) I like the break from the strength training and for me, cardio is what helps me loose the weight, the strength training just helps me tone.
I take Sunday off which is much needed!
To add in a few extra bits here and there. I take a walk with Carlos and Spencer once a day for a total of 2 miles.
We also play on our wii. I have wii fit and we have various activity games, like snowboarding, bowling, golfing etc.
I think the lack of response gives you the answer, of which I count myself. I have no regimen and don't do enough.
ReplyDeleteRight now, I get in a workout 3-5 times a week. I take an aerobics class during my lunch break, which I love. Its great to have a set class, which means I get in weight training, cardio, abs, everything I need, but I don't have to worry about what I'm going to do when. It really takes all the guess work out of it! Also, I sometimes walk with Hubby around our neighborhood on the weekends or nice days where I wasn't able to get to class.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what I'm going to do once I have a baby though! The class doesn't currently have childcare, so I'll have to figure something out. I might look into the stroller excercise classes, but those might bust our budget.
I'm not big on working out, though I'm trying to be better! I can't stand going to the gym (just a personal thing!) but I really like doing home videos. I've had great success with Turbo Jam videos, and they are only 20 minutes! The 30 day Shred did nothing for me, even though it was crazy hard, I lost NO weight. I'm thinking of trying P90x with my brother now, though!
ReplyDeleteHi Meredith, right now, I have no workout routine and I used to be pretty good about it pre-pregnancy. Things have been in a bit of a transition period since going back to work and I am hoping to get back into it next week. I have had a lot of success with working out in the past and what worked best for me when I was trying to lose weight was intervall training of cardio and toning. You don't really re-shape your body unless you do some kind of toning or resistance training. My favorite aerobics intervall class that I used to take that would give me the best results is very similiar to THE FIRM workouts. I own a bunch of those and plan on doing them at home when I can't make it to the gym. My company has a full sized gym so I am very fortunate to be able to use my lunch breaks for working out. Good luck with the weight loss, I know you will reach your goal!!!!
