BQOTD: $500

So, I have a Burning Question of the Day. It's been awhile, hasn't it? Anyway, today's question is:

If you were given $500 to spend, with the stipulation that it could not be used to pay bills, be put into savings, or used to pay down debt, how would you spend it?

Personally, I'm torn. I love this patio set, but I have a hard time spending that much on patio furniture!

I have a feeling that our computer is going to hit the dust in the next couple of years, so I'd also be tempted to put the $500 toward that.

But really, I think I'd probably enjoy it most if I spent the $500 on a bunch of smaller things. Sometimes, quantity is a good thing--I think I'd feel like I got more out of the deal. So I'd probably allocate the money as follows:

$100- Pair of running shoes for me
$25- Five movies from the $5 bin for Justin
$50- Clothes/Fun stuff for Lizzy
$25- Pair of jeans for Justin
$50- Misc. for me to spend however I want at Target
$50- Strawberry plants for hanging planter
$75- Chi Hair Straightener (I have always wanted one, but they are so expensive! Are they worth it?!)
$75-Date night for J and I
$75- Offering at church

  1. Do groceries count as bills? Because I'd buy things to eat.

  2. Oh, I'm terrible at these. I always put everything into savings - there's no such thing as "fun money" to me, it's a blessing and a curse. But I guess I'd put it towards a vacation - those are the memories that last a lifetime.

  3. I would take $200 for shoes. Just this morning I was thinking how I could use all brand new shoes. I don't like any of the ones I currently have! I'd probably use the other $300 on a new purse.

As for the Chi, I think it's 100% worth the money. I used to always buy cheaper ones at Target and Wal Mart. I finally broke down and bought a Chi and can tell such a difference!

  4. I would either put it towards spending money for our cruise in August or a new wardrobe for the cruise in August. I desperately need some new summer clothes.

  5. I would have to just take it and go on a shopping spree at Target. That is my trouble spot as my husband calls it. I always find something in there.

I would have to agree with Beth Ann, the chi is 100% worth it. I too use to always by the cheap ones and finally my cousin convinced me to buy one. I've had mine for over two years now (knock on wood) and I LOVE it! I don't know what I did before without it! Those things are miracle workers!

  6. I would use the $500 for baby stuff. I know we will register soon, but there is so much you need. Yikes!

The CHI is totally worth it! I used to buy the $20 ones at Target or Walmart and they would only work well for awhile or would break. I probably ended up spending the same in the long term as my CHI has lasted 5 years!!!!

  7. Like you, I'd split it up and buy a few different things... a haircut and highlights would eat up a chunk, a new dress and shoes for a couple weddings we are going to this summer, new running shorts, and new lamps for our bedroom would finish it out.

  8. New work clothes and shoes. I've been wearing black dress sandals with broken heels for over a year now!

And yes, the CHI is totally worth it. I've had mine for a couple of years now and I absolutely love it.

  9. I personally would either buy stuff for my house, clothes or a mini vacation to the beach or something.

  10. I'd probably also spend a chunk towards some exotic grocery items and the rest at Sephora!

I've been using an inexpensive flat iron for a while. When I asked my stylist for recommendation for one that wasn't hundreds of dollars, she said she was really impressed with her mom's iron--Sally's version of the CHI. (GVP brand I think. It says right on the box "comparable to a CHI.") I went to pick it up (on sale this with a free travel iron) and it was about $70. AMAZING. Straightens much better and my hair pulls through the plates MUCH easier!

  15. Oh this is so hard! I'd like to spend some of that to update and fix up my computer so it will last longer. I'd also put some towards an external hard drive so we can back up all of our pictures and any important files we don't want to use. The rest I'd probably use for new clothes for me, Hubby and the baby. There's other things I'd like to use it for, but I think these are the biggies that need to be addressed sooner rather than later.

  16. I would go to a restaurant and secretly pay for people's dinners such as a family with small children, or soldiers.

I would then walk out without seeing the expression on their faces, but just knowing you had done a good thing.

There's nothing like the feeling of doing something good without expecting something in return.

  20. Ooohh toughie. I'd say new computer, too.

But the thought of getting a lot for my money is also thrilling.

  21. I would put $500 towards a Cannon DSLR. I really want a nice camera. I currently just have a point and shoot.

As far as the CHI, I went to folica.com and read a ton or reviews and decided to go with the Solia instead of the CHI. I really like it. They run a lot of specials. (I'm not getting paid to tell you this, I just had a good experience, and really like my flat iron.)

  22. I love my CHI, worth every penny. I have tried several hair straightners and nothing compares. My hair is thick and corse so I needed a good one. If I had an extra $500, I would spend it on new clothes for me since I haven't bought any in awhile and I am inbetween sizes until I lose that last 10 ponds and window treatments for the house.

  23. I of course would spend it on baby stuff. That's seems to be all I buy these days. :)

  24. Great list and great question! I love that you put some in the offering plate. In my mind I spent all of mine on clothes
